Heaving been so proactively engaged in pastoral care of all the year groups I've worked with here at LCC, on encouragement from PGCert peers last week in our session on caring ... I have again contacted Health & safety to ask for Mental Health First Aider training. I feel the need to be trained as I'm constantly dealing with students who are suffering and need a bit more than the personal, 'human' guidance from me, the layman year leader. I believe having MH First Aider on the course team will strengthen and consolidate our approach to this issue with our students across the course and help both students and my colleagues. I identified this aspect of my work as vital in my first few weeks here! And I am almost constantly dealing with at least one student at any time who needs help, particularly in these strange times of lockdown terms. I want this! Let's see where it goes.
