Jan 9th 2021 - Over 100 students from all walks in attendance. An incredibly bright and welcoming opening from our Course Leader Lindsay sets me at ease … I’m fretting about the work I’m needing to do, the day job ‘stuff’. Two lectures – #1 James Wilson gave an informative, eye opening … indeed sobering lecture on the state of UK Higher Education. His focus on the financial structure and ramifications for students and their later financial ‘payback’ prospects was especially interesting and engaging. In terms of Creative Arts degree / industry … quite deflating. # Victoria (?) – I missed her surname and it wasn’t in the participants list – then gave another informative session on her research into language and the use of English in HE setting with such an extensive international cohort. This was especially pertinent as I’ve just done some work with Dua in Blueprint and we talked about having occasional lectures in international languages to a) promote inclusivity and b) educate English first language speakers / home students how difficult it can be for foreign students … something I’m looking into for the future. Onwards!
