As I have stressed throughout this PGCert study, I have always seen my role in teaching as being a mentor and have long been aware, from experience, how far reaching that responsibility is. So, after Thursday's excellent session with my DIRECTING students, I was contacted across Friday (yesterday) and id one to one tutorials where exceptionally positive sentiments and experience reflections were given by students. But when you get emails like the ones below, you become fully aware of just how big a role you are playing in their development and you have to embrace that responsibility. I do.
Hey Ian!
Just wanted to tell you how happy everyone came out of your workshops today (from both sessions).
Everyone was very inspired and personally ,for the first time in my path at University, I am so deeply engaged, feeling like I want and need to learn everything in depth, need to go further. Learning also of how to emotionally connect with myself.
So yes, we are all very happy that this is the first class back at the building. Can't wait to continue!
I'm very inspired.
Thanks!
See you on Monday

Hi Ian,
I just wanted to send an email and thank you for yesterday's session. I'd been so nervous to be back at uni and then doubly to act, and the whole session brought me way out of my comfort zone and I enjoyed it so much. I feel like I got such an insight into directing (and myself) that I've never had before. So just wanted to say thank you for such an insightful session.
Best,
M
